Profiles of Impact

Creating Opportunity Through a Future Gift

For William Di Filippo, BBA ’91, EMBA ’11, the impact of UT San Antonio did not end at graduation. Instead, it continued to shape his career, his leadership, and ultimately, his decision to invest in the university’s future through a gift in his estate plans.

Will earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting in 1991 before beginning his career in public accounting. In 1992, he joined Frost Bank, where he remains today as a senior vice president. He leads the Management Accounting department, overseeing organizational and customer profitability while managing enterprise-wide reporting and analytical applications that support strategic decision-making across the bank.

While his undergraduate degree laid the foundation for a long and successful career, Will says returning to the university years later changed him in a deeper way. In 2011, he completed the Executive MBA program.

“That program was the right program at the right time for me,” he said. “I went back to brush up on my skills and get out of my comfort zone, but it ended up re-centering me. It gave me confidence, clarity, and a way of thinking more critically and holistically. It truly changed my life.”

That experience reignited his connection to the university and led to years of service, including two terms on the UT San Antonio Alumni Association Board and later serving as board president. It also planted the seed for giving back in a more meaningful way.

Will admits his planned giving journey unfolded slowly. “I kept making it harder than it needed to be,” he said. “Once I realized it could be as simple as naming UT San Antonio as a beneficiary on an account I already held, everything clicked. It was incredibly easy.”

For Will, the decision felt like a natural next step in turning a life-changing experience into opportunity for others. “Education is the cornerstone of individual success,” he said. “The Executive MBA transformed my personal and professional life. I want others to have that same opportunity.”

His vision is to create future scholarship or endowment support for students returning to pursue a second degree, particularly those seeking growth, clarity and a fresh perspective.
